Instant WordPress Installation [How To]

by · January 2, 2012

If there’s one thing that annoys a lot of WordPress users, it’s the inconvenience they get for testing new plugins and themes on their blog. Each time they want to do so, they will have to risk testing the plugin or Java Script that’s already running on the site. As a result, this leads to a downtime on the blog. Because of this, many WordPress site owners are wondering if they can install WordPress locally on their computer so they can easily check everything before uploading new plugins to their site.

Thankfully, there is now an option to do so. Thanks to WPCandy.com, WordPress users now have an easier way to install the site on their computer. Called Instant WordPress, they get to have an all in one standalone software program which converts an ordinary computer into a server. The good thing about it is that it can even operate on a USB dongle because the necessary files are located in just one folder. As a result, it can be executed on any computer.

For users who do not have much technical background, they can easily use Instant WordPress because it is similar to an executable program. The program does not require any configurations. Plus, it comes with automatic operations of all the necessities such as PHP, MySQL Database, and Apache Web Server. Moreover, the program has a few built-in dummy WordPress posts and pages so users do not have to backup their blog to use as a test for the plugins and themes.

In order to use Instant WordPress, the EXE file needs to be downloaded onto the computer. If it is no longer needed, the file can simply be deleted. The latest version of the program includes operation for WordPress version 3.2, PHP 5.3.2, Apache 2.2.15 (Win32), MySQL 5.1.46 as well as other dummy posts and pages. The best thing about it, is the program does not need the internet to operate it.

Installing and Using Instant WordPress on Your Computer:

1. Download the latest version of Instant WordPress.
2. Open the downloaded file and select the path where the files should be extracted.
3. After extraction, go to the directory and start the program by opening a file called InstantWP.exe.
4. After all the services have been initiated by the program, a new window will open (such as the one on the photo).

5. Click on the button called WordPress Admin.

6. Open the WordPress URL by copying it from the Clipboard button and pasting it to the Navigation bar of your internet browser.

7. When prompted for a Username and Password, use Admin as the username and password for the password.

To open up the other pages, you simply have to return to the main Instant WordPress window and click on a blue button similar to WordPress FrontPage. Click Copy WordPress URL and opening it up with your internet browser.
